A new cogeneration plant for the city of Cottbus, in Germany

Cefla Engineering, in joint-venture with the company Atzwanger from Bolzano, will build a cogeneration plant in Cottbus, Germany, as part of a government plan to replace obsolete coal-fired power stations.

The call for tenders was issued by Stadtwerke Cottbus, a municipal undertaking from the eponymous German city in the Federal State of Brandenburg. “The contract involves the design, construction, installation and testing of a new 50 MW cogeneration plant, together with all the connected auxiliary systems, including the installation of five Jenbacher J920 gas engines, of 10 MW each”, explains Massimo Pinoli, International Sales Manager for Cefla Engineering. “The Cottbus plant will supply electricity and thermal energy using the most efficient system technologies; as with the plant we already built for Acea in Rome (in the Tor di Valle area), all the heat will supply a city district heating network, serving almost 100,000 residents. For this plant the site will also rely on the collaboration of a network of local partners for the construction activities, including the construction of a two-storey power plant building. The building will contain all the auxiliary systems and equipment of the power plant and a series of 15 hot water storage tanks, approximately 30 metres in height, in a configuration specially designed by Cefla”.

“Cefla, the project leader, and Atzwanger bring their respective skills and experience to the joint venture. Cefla brings the design and operational experience that our engineers and technicians have acquired in important recent projects in the energy sector over the last twenty years,” explains Massimo Milani, Managing Director of the Cefla Engineering BU, and “Atzwanger’s contribution is its operational experience and approach to the management of complex projects in Germany”.

Cefla confirms its partnership with Ducati Corse. Our trademark to appear on Ducati motorcycle fairings throughout 2019

The Ducati bikes ridden by Andrea Dovizioso, Danilo Petrucci and test rider Michele Pirro will feature the Cefla trademark on their fairings throughout the 2019 season.
For the second year running, in fact, Cefla will be an Official Partner of Ducati Corse, taking to the track together with the “Mission Winnow Ducati” team in the 2019 MotoGP World Championship, which begins in Qatar on 10th March.
In all 19 World Championship races, then, the Cefla trademark will emblazon the Bologna-built Ducati bikes, which will, of course, have their sights set on winning the title.
In this latest adventure with Ducati Corse, the Cefla brand will be visible not just on the fairings but also on the Ducati technicians/team’s headsets, on the motorhome doors and in the paddock lights, provided by Lucifero’s.
Because when it comes to winning future challenges, teamwork is a must, as Cefla Engineering – which has always made teamwork its key strength – knows full well.
The partnership between Cefla and Ducati continues, then, thanks to the shared values of Passion, Performance and Innovation and a strong sense of belonging to that unique territory known worldwide as ‘Italy’s Motor Valley’, a long-standing hub of innovation and research into ground-breaking solutions.

Cefla a prize-winner at ELIS Innovation Day 2018

Four hundred visitors, 54 innovation projects developed by 54 companies, more than 115 young people involved, 8 start-ups. These are the key figures for the fourth edition of ELIS Innovation Day – the Elis Consortium students’ technological fair – held on 21st June in Rome.

The presented projects were linked to seven emerging technologies, a winner being selected for each one.

Cefla was awarded second place in the business process re-engineering sector.

Giacomo Buzzitta and Simone Marino were the interns who, over recent months, worked with Cefla to develop the “Business Analytics & Operation Control on a Maintenance process” project; this allows for the creation of a corporate strategy analysis and operational KPI control model by using a Cloud-based Business Intelligence system.

Starting with identification of the strategic outlines of sector and company and the KPIs relative to the maintenance business, it was then possible to proceed with analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the business intelligence tool, mapping out both the available data and that needed to complete the information framework.

Promoting work experience is a Cefla constant. We believe it is essential to bring out young people’s talents and invest in their skills, especially in industries with a high technology and innovation content.

Cefla is official partner to Ducati

The cornerstones of the partnership – signed by Gianmaria Balducci, Cefla’s President, and Luigi Dall’Igna, General Manager of Ducati Corse – are passion, performance and innovation. Both companies have long histories, both rooted in that same unique territory known worldwide as ‘Italy’s Motor Valley’.

Gianmaria Balducci, President of Cefla, commented on the new partnership by underlining Cefla and Ducati’s shared capacity to “re-invent themselves over time by responding to their customers’ needs and breathing life into new businesses”. He added: “We’re both guided by ceaseless improvement. We’re focused on achieving podium places and share a powerful drive towards optimal performance”.

“It’s with enormous pleasure that we welcome Cefla as a supporting partner in this MotoGP season”, stated Luigi Dall’Igna, General Manager of Ducati Corse. “Cefla and Ducati share a great many values and both set themselves ambitious goals: so we’re confident our partnership will be a successful one.”

A playground tailor-made for children

Cefla’s oldest established Business Unit is looking towards the future of the local community – Cefla Plant Solutions is in fact making a local contribution with the “Parco Primo Sport 0246” project which will be inaugurated in San Lazzaro di Savena, near Bologna, in September with the Olympic fencing champion Valentina Vezzali, as an outstanding sponsor.

The project, drawn up by the University of Verona and based on an idea of the Laboratorio 0246 association, which is led by the six-times Olympic champion, involves the construction of Italy’s third park of its kind, following those created in Treviso and Rome. The parks have been designed specifically to develop the most important initial skills for young children: mobility, manual skills, balance and symbolic play.

“Cefla is celebrating its 85th anniversary and over these years the company has grown and evolved, investing in the future and in the new generations,” explains Roberto Cocchi, head of Cefla Plant Solutions, who has believed in the “Parco Giochi Primo Sport 0246” project right from the start, “maintaining strong links with the local area and working to assist in the social growth of the community. With this idea we, as a Business Unit, have decided to give our support to this innovative project which will allows families to experience the first years of their children’s lives in a constructive and socialising manner. The park will provide an area designed specifically for young children, in which everyone can move around and play in safety and while learning.”

The playground will be equipped with lighting and video-surveillance and it will be open to school groups, families and individuals without any time restrictions. Birthday parties can be hosted and there will be areas where mothers can feed their children in tranquility.

Acea renews Tor di Valle’s district heating. Project entrusted to Cefla and General Electric

Motore per Acea_Cefla e GEWhen the project is completed, the new 19 MW district heating power plant will provide high-efficiency thermal energy for 50,000 residents in Rome. Cefla will develop the engineering aspects of the plant, providing project management, ensuring plant supplies and taking care of the entire plant’s installation, including the civil infrastructure. The project is an excellent example of the modernization of district heating plants with new, high-efficiency gas engines, aimed at the delivery of municipal utilities and public services.

Acea Spa, a leading Italian multi-utility company, has chosen Cefla Plant Solutions and the Distributed Power division of General Electric for the modernization of the Tor di Valle (Rome) district heating power plant. Work will begin in 2016 and will be concluded by 2017, and upon completion the new 19 MW district heating plant will provide 50,000 users in Rome with high efficiency thermal energy.

“The project,” said Giovanni Papaleo, Acea Industrial Energy sector “demonstrates our continued commitment to pursue our plan to develop, improve and modernize our energy production assets for the benefit of our residential and business customers”.

This project is an excellent example of the modernization of district heating plants with new high-efficiency gas engines, aimed at the delivery of municipal utilities and provision of public services and is, as highlighted by Roberto Cocchi, Managing Director of the Cefla Plant Solutions Business Unit: “a significant step within our plan to develop and grow in the energy sector and an important recognition of our capabilities and our system engineering experience, gained over the last 30 years, coming from a major company like Acea, which is committed to development and innovation”.

The order consists of two J920 FleXtra combined heat and power units plus three auxiliary boilers and associated district heating systems. The engines will produce 19 MW of electrical power and about 15 MW of thermal power, achieving more than 80 percent of total efficiency. Three additional gas boilers will produce another 70 MW of thermal power to cover peak heat load demands. The project includes a multi-year maintenance contract for the two J920 FleXtra engines.

GE will supply the Jenbacher J920 FleXtra generators and related auxiliary equipment for the groups. Cefla will develop the engineering aspects of the plant, providing project management, ensuring plant supplies and taking care of the entire plant’s installation, including the civil infrastructure. The accumulation of thermal energy from the new engines will ensure a continuous supply of heat and will exploit the generation of electricity only during peak periods, when the energy value is greater.

“We are pleased to collaborate with Cefla as a qualified partner in the management of technological projects in energy distribution,” says Carlos Lange, president of the Distributed Power division of GE.
