Casalgrande Padana

Background

Since 1960 Casalgrande Padana has been a world leader in the ceramic industry. Today it is the top-ranking Italian producer of grès porcelain stoneware — a durable, versatile material, characterised by high performance and aesthetic qualities — representing about 80% of company’s production. Casalgrande Padana was among the first in the world to develop this particular type of stoneware finish, contributing significantly to its recognition as a material suitable for a broad array of architectural uses. Among the cornerstones of the corporate culture is respect for natural resources and the environment through the use of systems designed to reduce pollution, of renewable energy and through efforts to reduce utilities consumption as much as possible. For this reason, Cefla Engineering was chosen for the construction of a cogeneration plant system using a turbo-generator fuelled by natural gas.

Type of Operation

The system, designed, supplied and installed by Cefla, is based on a turbo-generator and heat recovery from it exhaust gas. The turbo-generator, fuelled by natural gas, offers a 6 MW electrical output, partly consumed by the plant and the surplus fed into the mains power grid. To meet turbine requirements, a natural gas compression system was installed in order to raise network pressure. The exhaust gas output is recovered by running the gas discharge through 3 spray dryers. The multi-year system maintenance service offered by Cefla includes:

  • Scheduled ordinary maintenance of the Solar T65 turbo-generator
  • Scheduled ordinary maintenance of the Solar T65 turbo-generator auxiliary systems
  • Replacement of worn parts
  • Telephone support services
  • Service availability 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, guaranteeing on-premise technical assistance within 24 hours after an alert.
