NOVA comes to Cefla, in Imola: the first European installation of a fuel cell cogeneration plant to produce high-efficiency electricity and heat, without any in-atmosphere emissions.

Europe’s first fuel cell cogeneration plant has been installed at the CEFLA plant in Imola.

What makes NOVA special is the application of CHP solid oxide technology to ensure the combined production of thermal energy and electrical energy. What’s more, when used in conjunction with an absorber, NOVA can also deliver ‘cold’ (i.e. cooling power). Power ratings remaining equal, fuel cell technology is 25% more efficient than a combustion (engine or turbine) source.

It also guarantees an electrical efficiency of 54% throughout its life cycle and therefore provides users with greater control over economic performance; from a climate perspective, NOVA has a leading role to play as it can adapt to different power sources.

The Cefla solution

  • Solution: 330 kW/e
  • Measurements: Length 12000 mm x Width 5000 mm x H.3500 mm
  • Type of plant: SOFC Fuel Cell cogeneration
  • Benefits: clean energy, no harmful emissions
